StrikeBack2010:

A quick Election Time Note…if you find yourself nodding in agreement with the sort of world view we hold to,  or  if you’re an Independent Voter that sees some sense in the ideas we’re advocating on this blog and would like to learn more, please check out our candidates’ links on the right.

If you’re a hard left progressive or something like that, please don’t waste your time (you won’t like any of them).

We at StrikeBack2010 have a number of resources we’d like to share with you.

www.financialsense.com

www.mises.org

www.shadowstats.com

www.dailyreckoning.com/

These are financial and economics web sites.  Seeking Alpha in particular has a great deal of news, opinion, and interpretation regarding the United States’ current financial mess.  Financial Sense features a weekly audio webcast, which is always highly informative…and may introduce you to issues you did not even know existed within our government.  Mises.org is named after a founder of the Austrian School of Economics, as opposed to Keynesian School proponents who got us into our current massive economic mess.  If you listen to somebody like Ron Paul, you will see that he subscribes strongly to the Austrian School.  It can be heavy reading, but worthwhile.  If you think the government uses statistics to lie to you through their teeth, check out John Williams’ Shadow Government Statistics page.  He’s a real live economist.  Finally, if you like doom-n-gloom, The Daily Reckoning is for you!

These guys seem to us to be the three major players who do best at remembering what journalism used to be.

§

www.newyorktimes.com

www.washingtonpost.com

We pay attention to these folks, to make sure we understand what our government thinks we ought to hear.  We contrast it with the information we get elsewhere, and then use our brains.

These folks appear to be tackling stories and issues that just…don’t…seem…important enough for the likes of MSNBC.  Worth a look.

www.dailykos.com

We read these to scare ourselves.  There are people who really do think they ought to have the right to tell you what to do, how to do it, and what to think.  If you question whether the “right wing scare mongers” are just trying to get you riled up (or…is there something really going on, over there on the extreme left), read Huffington or the Kos.  Come to your own conclusions.  If you decide you like ‘em, you need to go buy a “YES WE CAN” tee shirt (and a bucket of Kool-Aide), not our Striking Gadsden.  And move to France.

This is the apocryphal story of Congressman Davy Crockett, and how he learned a valuable lesson about what government should and should not do.  If you have not seen it, we highly recommend the story.

So what is a person to do?  Educate yourself.  Talk with others, discuss the issues.  Please take a look at these sites; there are certainly similar groups local to you.  Govtrack in particular is useful; you can sign up for email alerts anytime your representative sneezes, if you want.  Open Secrets will reveal how much campaign money your Representative or candidate is receiving, and from who.  Do something.  Be engaged.
